GOD'S LOVE IN ACTION - GHANA PROJECT
To know God and to make Him known
God’s Love In Action is a subsidiary of Fountain of Life of Ministries. GLIA evolved as a result of an overwhelming need for educating young people.
During a visit to Ghana about 15 years ago, Pastor Alex observed that a greater number of children ranging from 5 - 18 years were not at school, but rather chose to hawk on the streets and major roads selling dog chains, chewing gum, bread and other household items.
When he inquired why they were not at school, they told him their parents could not afford the school fees as well as their maintenance allowance and transport cost since the nearest schools for most of the children were 10-15 miles away.
Going to school meant children had to leave home before 6am to arrive at school at 8.15am due to traffic jams. Most of schools were poor in quality and in dire need of maintenance.
The children’s response made Pastor Alex feel depressed as education, housing and healthcare are basic rights for children. Ghana still has about 30% of children of school going age not at school due to economic and environmental factors.
His experience convinced him and wife to do something about the problem. They discussed the issue together and agreed to do something about it. On their return to the UK we remortgaged our house and took £15,000 to purchase six plots of land for the proposed school and church. We have so far spent £41,000forty-one thousand in
securing the land documents, and architectural drawings of the school which includes a nursery, primary and secondary school. There will also be a Church to serve the school and the community. Much of the funds are from Pastor Alex and Mama Sharon’s personal income.
In view of this project Pastor Alex has also spent the last five years to prepare himself academically. Apart from his pastoral training, He also has BA (Psychosocial Studies) from Birkbeck, University of London and MSc ( Clinical and Community Psychology) from University of London. This means Pastor Alex has adequately prepared for the task ahead as the Chief Executive of this proposed Institution.
