Reasons for Paul's instruction

Read 1 Timothy 3:14-15

"Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you these instructions so that, if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth."

Summary of verse:

Paul is telling Timothy that he may be delayed in having face to face contact with him, but he should continue putting into practice everything that he's learnt.

Cont reading from v16

"Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great:"

Summary of verse:

Paul then goes on to talk about the mystery of our faith and why it's so great and so remarkable, why our faith is our pillar and our anchor and why we should hold on to God no matter what trails we face.

The reasons why (cont v16):

"He appeared in the flesh,
    was vindicated by the Spirit,
was seen by angels,
    was preached among the nations,
was believed on in the world,
    was taken up in glory."

Q. What is the incarnation?

Through the embodiment of Jesus is how God was manifested in the flesh. Jesus wasn't any less that God than God the Father. God the Son isn't less that God the father. Jesus' incarnation is the basis of being right with God.

Q. What is a simile?

When we compare two words using 'as' or 'like'.

Eg. he's like a stamp of his father.

Q. What is a metaphor?

When you compare something as it is.

Eg. Jesus isn't like God, Jesus is God.

Q. Why is the incarnation important/why did god choose to do this

This is the most significant thing that happened in the world's history. If God made Himself Jesus (as a man, one of us, walking among us, facing the same struggles and temptations, betrayal, hate, love, fellowship) it's good and important for us to be able to relate to Him and follow Him has he lead by an example. If Jesus never existed, we could feel like God doesn't understand what we are going through because He hasn't experienced it - but He has. Through God's experience as Jesus on Earth, His example lives forever. We can identify with Him. This encourages us through difficult times. He also had a mission, to die for us to save us from all our sins. God loved us so much and wanted a deeper relationship with us that He was willing to come to Earth as man to join us.

Read Hebrews 4:14-16
"Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathise with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."

Memory verse: 1 timothy 3:16

We thank you that you came to Earth because you loved us and because you wanted a relationship with us through Jesus. We thank you for what Jesus we are able to be saved and have eternal life. Help us to remember that you are the best friend we could ever have, you are our role model that we can speak to you about anything and you will understand. We pray that we can develop our relationship and intimacy with you daily. We pray that the the reasons for the incarnation will live in our hearts and change the way to love you and your people.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
